Kommentar	In this introductory seminar accompanying the GK Linguistic Theory, the focus lies on the application of concepts from the lecture to the use of English in various social and global contexts. We will examine how language functions in various applied settings, its relationship with variation, change, and social practice, and the influence of its colonial past and globalized present on usage. Bemerkung: Diese Lehrveranstaltung im Modul M1 der neuen SPO 2026 ist auch für die alte SPO 2020 (BA/Lehramt) im Modul Introducing Linguistics wählbar.
Bemerkung	Under the 2020 curriculum this seminar is accompanied by a lecture with the same title. Together with the lecture and seminar "Introducing English Linguistics II" in the 2nd semester they form the module " Introducing English Linguistics".
