Learning Content

Many learners find speaking in a foreign language particularly challenging, and current classroom practices often fail to provide them with opportunities to lower their inhibitions and practice speaking through structured peer interaction. In this seminar, we will take a closer look at how cooperative learning can offer a powerful framework for promoting speaking skills in the EFL classroom in years 7-10. We will explore key theoretical foundations of the approach and discuss how it can contribute to increase learner talk time and create meaningful opportunities for language use. Grounded in current SLA research, the seminar invites you to critically reflect on current teaching practices and develop a deeper understanding of how speaking competence can be fostered more effectively in a school setting.

As part of this seminar and your course requirements, you will have the unique opportunity to actively participate in and help shape a Studientag on 25th March 2026.

On the Studientag, you will collaborate closely with a group of Referendar*innen, exchanging ideas and jointly planning lessons that bring the seminar’s theoretical insights to life. This special event is designed to connect theory with practice in an engaging and meaningful way. Preparations for the day will beguided during our seminar sessions.

Attendance on the Studientag is mandatory and essential for passing the seminar, so make sure to reserve this day in your schedule.
