Description The main goal of this course is to further improve your language skills and to expand your vocabulary by listening to authentic speakers of British and American English. Occasionally, speakers from other countries (especially Australia, New Zealand, Canada) will also be included. We will practice gap texts and comprehension tasks in preparation for the listening section of the "Understanding texts" module exam. Students will practice listening for specific information (e.g. words, short phrases, numbers) in the form of listening gap text exercises and students will practice answering detailed listening comprehension questions (longer facts, specific content). The audio/video material in this course is from authentic sources for educated native speakers (C1+). We will study and discuss common mistakes in terms of pronunciation/intonation/phonology, spelling, and grammar, and we will practice problem-solving techniques for listening tasks. Students will practice understanding factual and nonfactual information (e.g. attitudes, hidden cues), and will get a better grip of various aspects of style and register. In addition to improving their listening and overall language skills, students will gain deeper knowledge and understanding of regional, historical, economic, political, and cultural contexts in English-speaking countries.</p>
Remarks

This C1+ Listening course will only improve your language skills if you attend class meetings regularly, do homework assignments on time, reflect on feedback received from the teacher and fellow students, and actively participate in class discussions about tasks.

Please make sure to take this Listening course in combination with a Reading course, preferably in the same semester, to properly prepare for the "Understanding Texts" module exam.
