| Description |
If you seriously want to study the language, literatures and cultures of the United Kingdom and North America, you must follow those countries’ most recent developments, discussion, and news stories. We will practice your reading abilities by using authentic texts from predominantly British and American newspapers and magazines like The Guardian and The New York Times. This course will prepare you for the Understanding Texts exam by teaching you techniques of how to best approach texts with unknown vocabulary (without dictionary), how to consider context and grammatical constructions in finding the meaning of words and phrases and how to distinguish between facts and opinions. Ultimately, we hope to increase everyone's range of vocabulary in various fields. This course requires your independent learning of vocabulary. |
| Remarks |
This course will be taught IN-PERSON; i.e. I require your regular attendance.
Please make sure to attend the Listening course in combination with the Reading course, preferably in the same semester, to properly prepare for the "Understanding Texts" module exam. |
