Dear students,
Welcome to Ornithology SS 2025!! ;-)
The module ornithology consists of 1) lecture, 2) seminar (E15 for MSc BEE and E14 for LandEcol), and 3) practical exercises (E16 for MSc BEE and E15 for LandEcol). While lecture and seminar are offered during the regular semester time, the exercises will be done in September (23rd to 30th). I present here my plan for lecture and seminar. The exercises will have their own Moodle module (https://moodle.uni-greifswald.de/course/view.php?id=11399).
First general meeting for Ornithology: 08.04.2025 at 9:00 O´Clock in roo SR228, Soldmannstr. 23.
2) Ornithology - Seminar (2 SWS) Every week after the lecture, we will stay in the room SR228 (Soldmannstr. 23) to start with the seminar at 10:15. I have prepared a list of scientific papers, classified according to the topics of the course. I will place this list and an introduction in Moodle. You will organize yourselves in teams of 2-4 (depending on the number of registered students, which I will announce after the first general meeting for lecture and seminar: 08.04.2025) and each team will:
a) Select a topic for discussion: I prepared a document in Moodle that will be available on the day of our first meeting (08.04.2023) at 10:00 O’Clock. Just write your name in the topic of your preference. If you already have team partners, make sure to write all names on the same subject. The number of team members per topic is indicated on the document. This selection will be done " first come first served".
b) Once you, as a team, have decided on a topic, you can select a paper from the collection (“REFERENCE LIST SS2025”). You send me your decision about the paper until April 15th.
c) I create a time schedule for discussion of the papers and post it in Moodle.
Each team will have two weeks to read the selected paper and summarize it (ca. 3 pages). This summary should also include critics to the paper, and questions for discussion. You send me the summary to make it available for all students as well. In preparation for the discussion I suggest all students reading the paper. I expect your active participation during the discussion.
The list of papers (“REFERENCE LIST SS2025”) will be available one week before the semester starts on April 8th. The time schedule for the live discussions will be available on April 22thth after I have received input from all of you and made the final paper collection for the semester.
