Description

General information

Students with questions or who are unsure about their own participation are invited to join the first lecture on Tuesday, 15 October at 10:15!

This lecture is bilingual! The live lecture will be in English language (spoken and slides) to allow all students, including international students from English MSc programmes to join. A video version in German (still English slides) will be available in parallel on Moodle. Questions during the lecture can be posed in both languages! The German language videos are available for exam preparation (BSc Geography Testat (PSO 2013) or oral exam (PSO 2021)).

Contents

The lecture introduces students to the basics of remote sensing / Earth observation of land surfaces. After successful completion of the lecture students
- know different sensor systems for observing the Earth
- understand the sensor characteristics relevant for planning remote sensing studies
- are familiar with the physical backgrounds of remote sensing image acquisition and pre-processing
- understand how surface properties influence the measure signal
- can interpret spatial and spectral image properties, and
- know different approaches for computer-based image analysis, including the work with vegetation indices or image classification.
A parallel practical (5313019 Ü Fernerkundung) teaches students the related implementation and analysis on a free and open source software.

BSc Geographie PSO 2021: Diese Vorlesung ist eine Pflichtlehrveranstaltung des dritten Semesters und bildet gemeinsam mit der zugehörigen Übung das Modul A2. Das Modul schließt mit einer mündlichen Prüfung ab, die alle Modulinhalte zum Inhalt hat. Somit ist der parallele Besuch beider Lehrveranstaltungen notwendig.

BSc Geographie PSO 2013: Diese Vorlesung ist eine Pflichtlehrveranstaltung, die mit einer Teilklausur (zusammen mit V Landschaftsplanung) abschließt. Die Teilnahme an der parallelen Übung wird nahegelegt. Diese Übung kann als Alternative zu GIS II (Sommersemester) angerechnet werden (eine der beiden Übungen ist Pflicht). Mit Blick auf den Arbeitsmarkt für Geograph*innen empfehlen wir die Teilnahme an beiden Übungen. Hinweis: ab dem WS 23/24 werden Vorlesung und Übungen endgültig so verzahnt, dass die Teilnahme an beiden Veranstaltungen erforderlich ist, um dem Stoff zu folgen.

MSc BEE PSO 2021: Students can participate in this elective module (E 2.21) by visiting both the lecture and the parallel practical 5313019 Fernerkundung/Remote Sensing. For successful completion assignments of the practical have to be completed. This requires knowledge from the lecture.

MSc LENC PSO 2024: Students can participate in this elective module (E 4.3) by visiting both the lecture and the parallel practical 5313019 Fernerkundung/Remote Sensing. For successful completion assignments of the practical have to be completed. This requires knowledge from the lecture.
