This course will take Queen Elizabeth II's 70-year long reign (1952 to 2022) as a starting point to study and analyse British history from the Second World War to the present.
We will look at Britain's modern history in five different, albeit connected, time frames:
- Post-WWII Britain
- The 1960s and 1970s
- 1980s
- 1990s
- 2000 to 2022
For each era we will look at cultural, social, political, and economic developments in the country. We'll try to analyse and interpret what the main threads, key conflicts, pivotal changes, and crucial identities are during Elizabeth II's reign.
We will also endeavour to better understand what the role of Elizabeth II and the monarchy played and continue to play for British life.
Please keep in mind that this is not an EIIR biography course, but a course about British history and culture. |
