This course aims to provide you with the scaffolding for your academic essays which you can and should use in all academic text productions. We will practice its application continually, i.e. I expect students to complete worksheets in preparation for writing complete essay in the first half of the semester and then write an academic essay independently once a week in the second half of the semester. You will have to hand in your texts digitally via moodle at a fixed deadline latest (ca. 1 week after the task has been assigned). You will then receive extensive personalized feedback and we will use your work as a basis for further improvement in selected group meetings. For that, we will use BBB and work with a padlet, too.
Contentwise, we will work with topics covered in the news. The news offers facts, analyses and opinions on a huge amount of events that more or less shape our daily lives or our experience of the world. It reflects or challenge our own views. We will choose such hot-button issues for planning, structuring and writing academic essays as they allow us to argue pro and contra of an issue and express our opinions in specific discussions. |
