Description

Is it roll, bap, bun, cob, or breadcake? Obviously, Berliner is the right translation for a doughnut without a hole in the middle - or was it Pfannkuchen? These are some of the essential questions we will discuss in this seminar. Regional variation is diverse and forms a rich heritage, which is covered in the study of dialectology. But how can regions be defined? What are their language particularities and how are these seen and perceived by others, are some of the topics we will cover in this seminar. Furthermore, we will look at and create our own dialect maps, look at different research approaches, and learn about different regional varieties in the British Isles and the US - Your knowlegde and personal experiences are welcome here!
