Do you enjoy intercutural encounters and would love to organise them for your future pupils? Nothing is more exciting than meeting native speakers and realising you can express yourself in the foreign language and that you are understood. This is one of the most motivating factors of foreign language learning. However, these encounters, especially in a school context, need to be prepared well for your pupils to feel confident and have the best preconditons to further develop their language during those encounters. Last semester, we undertook a German-American school project. A group of students assessed the challenges of the intercultural communication between Germans and Americans and have provided us with helpful data and results. We will evaluate those results and use them to develop concrete exercises that will help teachers and students feel prepared for interactions with native speakers of English. We will secure our results and put them up online so that you and other students of the University of Greifswald can access them and have support at hand to develop motivating lessons that will help pupils feel more confident and develop their intercultural communicative competence. Be prepared for some theory but also a lot of fun and to develop relevant teaching resources. |
