Description	In this seminar, we will look at various constructed languages; those for television (e.g. Klingon, Dothraki, Na’vi) and those for real-life purposes (Esperanto). In examining those, we will tie them to linguistic phenomena and theories (e.g. creolisation, phonetic fitness, etc). Furthermore, we will also investigate revived languages and how language is linked to our identities. At the end of the seminar, we will discuss the question why languages like Esperanto are not used on a global scale and why people often stick to local varieties.

Description
