Description |
Stanley Kubrick is one of the most revered filmmakers of all time, admired for his technical mastery of the medium, his artistic brilliance and innovativeness, and his daring and uncompromising treatment of controversial subject matter, yet also often deprecated for his cold and distanced, some might say inhuman, perspective. In this course we will have a look at Kubrick’s (almost) entire oeuvre from his early noir features via classics such as Paths of Glory (1957), Dr. Strangelove (1964), 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968), A Clockwork Orange (1971), The Shining (1980), Full Metal Jacket (1987), to his final film Eyes Wide Shut (1999) and discuss what makes his films so unique and individual while at the same time exhibiting a continuity of themes and style as well as proving to be a lasting and towering influence on subsequent directors. |
