If you seriously want to study the language, literatures and cultures of the United Kingdom and North America, you must follow those countries’ most recent developments, discussions, and news stories. We will practice your reading abilities by using authentic texts from predominantly British and American newspapers and magazines like The Guardian and The New York Times.
This course will prepare you for the Understanding Texts exam by teaching you techniques of how to best approach texts with unknown vocabulary (without dictionary), how to consider context and grammatical constructions in finding the meaning of words, phrases, and their use in a specific context, and how to distinguish between facts and opinions. Ultimately, we hope to increase everyone's range of vocabulary in various fields.
This course requires your independent and voluntary reading of advanced ENglish texts and independent learning of vocabulary.
