Seminar: Nature and Imagination: Introduction to Romanticism

This seminar will introduce students to the age and writing of Romanticism, with a specific focus on the interplay of Nature and the Imagination. We will cover major works by the “Big Six” (Wordsworth, Coleridge, Shelley, Keats, Byron), but will also expand our understanding of the period by the inclusion of a number of further seminal writers and texts.

The primary reading will be provided through Moodle. Most texts will come from the best one-volume anthology of Romanticism available, Duncan Wu's Romanticism: An Anthology. It is very advisable to get a hard copy of this.
